MAXNC 10 CNC Desktop Bench Milling Machine -Weak Z stepper
MAXNC 10 CNC Desktop Bench Milling Machine. X and y axis fine, z axis stepper is weak. Jameco 169201 24 Volt, 0.160 Amp/winding, 1.8 deg/step UNIPOLAR stepper motor. Tested the driver by swapping steppers and the driver is fine. These are a great micro machines when the anti backlash nuts are added. The main waveform controller is working but the vertical axis stepper is tired. A good start at a good price for a complete gecko retrofit. These are the stock spindle motor and steppers. Was tested using a linux emc2 machine setup. A few small tooling marks on the face. With a little bit of effort could be made into a sweet. There are lots of mods for this unit in the cnc forums. It came from a university and was only ever used to cut plastic name tags for doors. Like all of the maxnc machines it is moved by 1/4×20 “all thread” type lead screws so adding anti backlash type nuts really increases the precision. I tested all axis with a hybrid linux cnc (emc2) setup and it moved fine on x and y but z missed many steps.
