I have a rebuilt Clausing 8525 / 8535 head for sale. This has the #7 Brown & Sharpe tapered spindle. Head was completely rebuilt using all new bearings and oil seal at Dan’s Machine Tool in Anaheim, CA. Head will come completely assembled and ready to place onto your mill and start cutting. Includes the draw bar, draw bar wrench (not pictured), quill down feed handle (not pictured), and a Royal collet (not pictured). I have a video showing the head on one of my machines. So you can hear how quite and butter smooth this thing runs. SKF / Chicago Rawhide seal was used. Both boxes are shown for your reference. This is a Clausing model 8512 vertical mill. It isn’t a typical Clausing 8520 type machine, but a variant of it. Everything about it is identical to the 8520 type machines except the head. The head is some type of water driven/water jet type unit that is badged by Raytheon. I bought 2 of these machines, and it is my understanding that they came from a optical lense/glass company. There isn’t a whole lot of info out there on the “interwebs” about the Clausing 8512′s. From what limited info that I was able to obtain, it seems that Clausing offered these machines with either a Bridgeport M Head installed on them, or they were offered with no head assembly at all. Some of them came with only one table crank handle on them, and others had both handles. These machines have only the one handle on them. I have no idea who fitted these machines with the Raytheon heads. I also have no idea how these heads work, only that they were driven by water and used in the optical glass cutting/shaping field. The machine itself is in outstanding condition with no noticeable wear. The table and ways are pristine since they were never subject to any form of metalworking, and the wear/damage that would be associated with that type of use. This machine came out of a laboratory environment rather than a machine shop. As far as I’m concerned, the head is probably useless, and the value in this machine would be to mount a Bridgeport or some other smaller vertical type milling head to it. You would then have an almost new, compact and very capable milling machine. I have provided the best pictures that I could to try to show the head and pump. I will do my best to answer any questions on this machine, but again, I admit that I know almost nothing about the head and it’s operation. Used Clausing 8520 vertical milling machine with 6″x24″ table in good condition. 3/4 hp 110volt motor. Mill has Reversing drum switch, 6ea collets, two drill chucks, complete hold down set, fine feed hand wheel, and palmgren vise. The ways have light scratches but are pretty smooth. Machine has fine down feed and MT2 spindle. Backlash is less than 1/4 turn in x and a little over 1/4 in the y. The mill runs fine and is in good condition for its age. Everything works on the mill. Table has some minor dinges, and mill marks. This machine can be picked up from my shop which is 10 miles south and east of downtown Saint Louis, Missouri, forklift loading is free.
