Here’s a chance to own an atlas mill with many rare accessories. This is a model mf atlas horizontal milling machine.
The model mf has eight feed rates per setting of the change-o-matic. I believe the later ones were six. There isn’t much else you need if you’re looking for an atlas horizontal milling machine and want to start cutting metal. Let the pictures help with the description. The mill is in good working order. I have primarily used it for slotting.
At this point it has been sitting for a little while. It could use a good cleaning and lubing.
Even so, it works just fine. I upgraded it a while back with a really nice 1/2hp atlas motor that can be wired 110v or 220v, swapped out the zamak bull gear with a nice machined steel one, and replaced the rear spindle retaining nut with a slotted clamping nut.
I have the original parts that were replaced. I also have the original? 1/3hp motor that is grounded to the frame and would need to be rewound. As seen in the photos, the mill also includes:rare marvin vertical milling head that includes the even more rare top cover i have the original marvin nut that holds the belt pulley to the spindle, but it is shown with the arbor driver holding it in place which i prefer to use.
This is one of the most complete marvin vertical heads you will find! Marvin vertical milling heads generally sell for $1,200 to $1,500 by themselves (when you can find them). Very rare m1-551 coolant tank.
Rare shell end mill driver. 7/8″ and 1″ horizontal milling arbors with driver and overarm support. Original atlas vise with handle.
Original m1-64 power feed kick out is attached to the front of the bed. 3/8″ and 1/2″ end mill holders. 3/16″, 5/16″, 1/4:, and 1/2 hardinge 2mt collets for the spindle taper. Very sturdy homemade overarm support bar – this double bar system is way more sturdy than the original.
Top and rear covers for the countershaft assembly. The countershaft assembly covers are not currently on the machine. I replaced the countershaft oilers with larger ones, and the oilers interfere with the top cover.
There is nothing wrong with the covers besides that. They are in great shape. This could be remedied with the smaller oilers, but i prefer the larger ones. I also recently broker the little plunger know off the backgear engaging handle. I have the little knob and it is an easy fix for anyone with even little to no machining experience. I will try to replace it before the new owner takes receipt of the machine. All in all a very nice machine with some rather scarce accessories on a sturdy wooden stand with trip tray. You won’t find another one listed with all these accessories. The item “Atlas Horizontal Mill w/ MARVIN VERTICAL HEAD and OTHER RARE ACCESSORIES” is in sale since Sunday, November 09, 2014.
