Fanuc Robodrill 5X a-D21MiB5 Fanuc Robot Cell CNC Vertical Mill low Hours 5 Axis. This setup has worked flawlessly. The way it was set up was the first few opps were done on the 5-axis trunnion and then the robot would come in and use the part flipper in the machine to flip the part for the second opp vise. We had a family of parts we used on this. All we needed to do was change out the soft jaws on the second and sometimes 1st vises and it would be up and running. It is a low hour setup. The Door, both vises, Part Gripper, Part Flipper are all ran by the robot. The robot is started by a simple M code in the Robodrill control. All I/O is ran simply on I/O boards. If a problem ever does arise you will know exactly where it is coming from. This is a very simple and reliable set up that works extremely well. All moving parts such as vises and doors have confirmation to ensure that there are no problems and if there are it will stop and not continue until it knows everything is ok. Often time we were able to leave this setup running for 24 hours or more depending on the parts. All valves and solenoids are easily accessible and easy to change out if you need to. The vises have regulators on them with gauges that allow to you adjust how tight or loose you want your clamping. The door and other outputs have needle valves that allow you to adjust movement as well. The vises also have a pressure multiplier which enables you to keep constant and consistent pressure to your vises. This setup picks material off of a grid on the table you see in the pictures. This way it is very simple are there are no conveyors to alarm out. Sometimes we take the part back and put it in the spot where the material was just picked up or sometimes, we just put finished parts in a box. The Robodrill has been customized to handle production as well. The machine has a custom washdown coolant system on it ran by an M Code to turn it on and off. It has a custom air blast system that is also ran from an M Code. The Chip conveyor has been customized to run off an M Code as well. The machine is technically a 2018 Machine, but it was on the dealer’s floor as a show model until it was installed in my shop in 2020. The machine has run great and hasn’t given us any issues. We did a wellness check on the machine during a routine maintenance call and it was perfect. They did check the spindle and it was as good as new. We don’t run the spindle over 20,000 RPM. It has 1,000PSI Thru Spindle Coolant, A Renishaw NC4 Laser Tool setter and a spindle Probe. It has always been well maintained the batteries in the control and robot have been changed on a regular basis. We only run this robot on 1/3 Speed because they are so fast it doesn’t really matter. The system has the ability to as a vision camera which I have and will go with the machine, we Just never did use it. We always kept the air screen clean to make sure it was always good air going into the control unit, it looks as clean as the day it was installed. The working life of these robots are rated at 24/7 operation, full weight on the end at full speed and in constant motion. According to this, this robot has been barely broken in. I will leave the programs in the robot so you can see how it was run. Specs for the robot are found below. Right now automation companies are very busy and machine tools are out months and months. This setup is all ready to go and for a much lesser price than what you would pay to have it all built from scratch. And it is very simple and reliable.
