The spindle probe is usually used for picking up work offsets, but can do so much more. Need a bore machined precisely withing 0.0005? It will also peck tap if you have only a traditional tap. High-speed machining The machine didn’t have this when I first got it, but after I got into better CAM software, the benefits were obvious. I don’t even consider this optional anymore. The battery backup has been replaced with the Haas, dual-battery holder so you should never have to worry about losing memory again. Visual Quick Code programming interface (I only like it for the probing cycles it offers). Spindle orientation I’ve never used this myself, but coupled with a right-angle head, driven or air powered, you’ve got an extra positioning axis for 3+1 or 3+2 if you add a rotary. Coordinate rotation and scaling (cool way to adjust the movements to match the orientation of the part if you’ve got something hard to orient precisely like a plate with two holes in it). I added a Redbone Tool coolant ring. This thing is awesome. I had been twiddling with coolant lockline during machining constantly. I installed this about 6 months after I bought the mill and haven’t touched a coolant nozzle since then. THE HRT 160 ROTARY IS OPTIONAL. It is available separately.
