The machine is designed for portable machining, you can mount angle brackets on it and use it flat, however it is designed to be used for cutting keyways on shafts. This machine is the older style with cast pockets. However, it has the updated chain holder and brackets.. This machine has a little rattle so it may need a bearing replaced at some point..
