Perfect unit for DIY CNC and retrofits. D&M sells educational machining centers for students. The unit consists of a sherline mini mill with a D&M enclosure. Nema 23 vexta stepper motors. Enclosure contains stepper motor drivers, spindle motor driver, and ac/dc transformer. No controller included (perfect retrofit project, there are several good DIY control boards to use). Magnetic proximity switches on mill axes and enclosure doors. Ways/frame are aluminum, and z axis dovetail is cast iron. Anti-backlash nuts on x/y axes. Spline coupler between motors and drive screws (see video below). Dents/scratches on machine bed, but could be fixed by facing off the bed with a fly cutter. Weight of enclosure+mill: 112 lbs. 27 deep (including e-stop and fuse holder protrusion). 26 deep (excluding fuses/estop). 21.75 tall (bottom of enclosure to top of z axis motor). My research has shown me that this machine is extremely similar (if not identical) to the sherline 5000 mini mill. I can’t guarantee this, but what I have seen leads me to believe it is true. See the video below for a breakdown of this particular machine. Unit comes with a metal cover for the belts/spindle motor but I have misplaced the necessary coupling piece to allow its attachment.
